In modern America, the issues we have around the subject of eating food can be huge and very complex. Yet I enjoy making this topic easier for most people to understand.
My interest in the subject of diet is drawn from my own perplexing battles of compulsive overeating, binge eating and poor body image, which has trailed me for decades. This led me to a lifetime of researching the emotions and the mental and physical challenges an individual might have.
In my life I have experienced three types of eating disorders.
As a child - by the 5th grade and at the age of 11 - I had gotten very tired of being isolated and teased by my classmates. So I wanted things to change. I was a compulsive eater, considered obese, and challenged with food allergies that were undiagnosed. This made me gravitate to the worse kind of foods for my body and its immune system.
My mom took me to the pediatrician to seek help, as I was very determined to get thin. I asked the doctor, how do I lose weight? He looked at me, patted me on the shoulder and said "You'll grow out of it." Even though his medical specialty focused on children's health that was the only advice he could give me.
Being willfully strong and committed to my goal, I said I would do it alone. I created my own diet. Based on what I knew, I decided the best way to lose weight was to restrict my diet of all foods. I would starve myself, and then later reward myself with a bowl of ice cream. That was my first experience in behavior modification.
Kathleen in 1966
In my teens, I had a passion for art and community service. However, my real dream was to go to the Olympics. I had rigorously developed my equestrian skills and even put in time training my horse, winning multiple championships in three states and Canada. This brought national attention to my doorstep.
Kathleen in 1965
In the fall of 1965, the most popular magazine for teen-age girls, Seventeen, called and wanted to do an article on me. They had selected me as an outstanding teen girl in America. This created excitement for me and also an opportunity to model for them.
In my first year of college I was eighteen years old, which was around the time the famous British model Twiggy hit America. She fast became a role model for thousands of young women and was renowned for her gauntness and as a sensation in advertisements for Yardley make-up. I was determined to be like her - as skinny as Twiggy.
Striving for thinness, I kept restricting and reducing my food intake. This habit went forward for about two years and led to anorexia. It's not unusual for this condition to lead to another eating disorder called bulimia.
Like most people who have such a secretive habit, I wanted to stop and a part of me did consciously want to change. But until my mid 40s I would binge on various foods and then force myself to immediately expel it out of my body.
Along with the shameful feelings caused by this, even exercising can become a compulsive part of the deceptive thinking surrounding anorexia and bulimia.
Always looking for a deeper solution to my own eating disorders, as well as those of others, I did my undergraduate studies at a Methodist University in world religions and elementary education. Later in my forties I received two master degrees in mental health and human services, with my doctorate in philosophy. I was fortunate to intern at Glenbeigh Hospital of Tampa, Florida. At that time it was the most innovative 12-step hospital for addictions in the U.S., with a special eating-disorder unit.
Looking back over my experiences, I can say with faith there were no coincidences, only my Higher Power leading me.
Eating disorders can lead to a gradual but overwhelming physical melt down. I realized how unhealthy I had become as a result of three decades of residual nutritional deficiencies. By the time I had come to peace with the mental and emotional challenges of my past, my body began to react with some amazing symptoms that I could not ignore.

What Lurks in Your Milk?!
Last month General Mills made the commitment to eliminate milk sourced from cows treated with rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) in the production of its "Yoplait" yogurt by August 2009. This marks another major consumer victory over one of the most controversial food technologies impacting adults and children who drink milk and eat dairy products.
What is rBGH and its History?
When rBGH was introduced to the milk industry it was one of the first genetically engineered agricultural products approved by the FDA. Originally masterminded and manufactured by the Monsanto Company and later bought by Eli Lilly in 2008, rBGH is a synthetic hormone sold to dairy farmers under the name Prosilac. When the drug is injected into dairy cows, milk production increases as much as 10 to 15%.
But here's the hitch. Farmers using the hormone in their livestock found themselves faced with various side effects from the drug. Cows with rBGH suffered from infertility, digestive disorders, food and leg-bone impairment, chronic sores and lacerations.
Although milk production went up, the accelerated process increased the pus in cow's milk due to mastitis (the inflammation of the udder). This consequently forced farmers to increase the use of antibiotics to curtail any infection.
For natural-health advocates, the overreliance on bacteria-fighting drugs to alleviate the side effects of rBGH was still yet another ill-advised change in procedures influencing public health.
A Pipeline of Pus and Antibiotics Into Your Body
Use of these drugs in the dairy industry translates into a pipeline of antibiotics from cows to humans through milk-related products containing rBGH. According to David Wallinga, MD, Director of the Food and Health Program at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP), research indicates that "avoiding antibiotic use wherever possible is an important public health goal, because there is now a consensus among scientists that antibiotic use in farm animals increases antibiotic resistance, often transmitted back to humans."

Hi, this is Charles Traylor.
How do we take relaxation to a new level? To learn more, join me as I'll be discussing the physiology of stress and how it impacts levels of health.
For example, heart rhythms become incoherent or more jagged when emotional states of frustration, anxiety and insecurity take over the body's sensors. Such emotionally based conditions determine how quickly we will age or remain youthful.
Applying scientifically proven techniques to release conditions that are not harmonious enables the body to take optimal advantage of Ziquin products.
Tune in and come away with some excellent ideas and techniques to try.

How Long You Live Depends on the Size of Your Enzyme Bank
The length of life is inversely proportional to the rate of exhaustion of the enzyme potential of an organism.
- Dr. Edward Howell
When it comes to the health of the human body, there is no more powerful substance on earth than enzymes. Put simply, enzymes carry the life force to every cell of your body. When you run out of enzymes, there's no life force to run your body.
To a great degree, your enzymes determine your longevity. If you're going to pay attention to anything that can profoundly improve the quality of your health, pay attention to enzymes.
You must have enough enzymes to really enjoy life. That's why they're so critical to your health and well-being.
An enzyme is essentially a protein molecule that magically speeds up all kinds of important chemical reactions within your body. Without enzymes, chemical reactions would happen so slowly within your body that life as we know it would not be possible. It wouldn't exist at all!
To quote Dr. Edward Howell, the father of enzyme research, "The length of life is inversely proportional to the rate of exhaustion of the enzyme potential of an organism." Simply put, without enzymes the body will die. So enzymes are the secret to our longevity!
The amount of energy you have right now and the quality of your health depends to a great degree upon the amount of enzyme activity that exists within your body. Enzymes will not only give you life, they keep you alive. They are, as Dr. Howell so aptly called them, the keys to life. The reason why the body grows old and finally dies is literally because the enzyme bank is empty.

What Lurks in Your Milk?!
(Continued)
"rBGH was one of the first genetically engineered products approved in 1993 by the Food and Drug Administration," says Ben Lilliston, communications director at IATP. "The science supporting its approval was always questionable. Farmers had some bad experiences with it in terms of increases in infections."
How is rBGH Related to Cancer Studies? While the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture maintain that rBGH dairy is safe for human consumption, the IATP explained that the use of rBGH raises levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in cows and cow's milk. Reports in the journals Science, January 23, 1998 and The Lancet, May 9, 1998 have linked IGF-1 with increased incidences of prostate and breast cancer. Other studies also suggest higher rates of colon cancer.
Because of various rBGH risks in animals and humans, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the 27 countries of the European Union have not approved it.
Widely credited for ushering Monsanto's rBGH through the FDA regulatory process and into the milk supply is Michael Taylor, a legal advisor who spent much of his career in and between the employ of Monsanto, the Bureau of Medical Devices, the Bureau of Foods, and the FDA and USDA. More recently, Taylor is listed on Barack Obama's transition team for energy and natural resources.
Consumer's Purchasing Power Brings Industry Change
The public health community has raised concerns about rBGH. The company introducing it, Monsanto, has been very litigious in defending the product, even though it was never wanted by consumers. In fact, nearly 60 percent of U.S. consumers state they would pay more for dairy products coming from cows not treated with the hormone. Consumer advocate groups consider rBGH a dangerous example of Frankenstein foods and politics.
Asked for comments about the move away from rBGH, Becky O'Grady, General Mills' vice president of marketing for the Yoplait brand replied, "While the safety of milk from cows treated with rBST is not at issue, our consumers were expressing a preference for milk from cows not treated with rBST - and we responded."
List of rBGH-free Diary Companies
As part of your Ziquin low-stress diet, and if you choose to eat dairy products from time to time, you may want to purchase products from companies that avoid the use of rBGH.
Here is a list of some companies that meet that requirement: Applegate Farms, Brown Cow, Cascade Fresh, Cedar Summit, Nancy's Cultured Dairy and Soy, Stonyfield Farms, Traders Point Creamery and Wallaby.
Wellness Achiever:
Dr. Kathleen Fuller
(Continued)
I was experiencing signs of constant fatigue, depression, swollen ankles, muscles aches and headaches. Signals of intense gastrointestinal pain made my digestive system feel like it had closed down. I lived with these physical conditions for 4½ years before being introduced to Ziquin.
One day as I was working and writing my book, one of my co-workers, Coleen Rehm, who is a writer, editor and wellness coach in health, introduced me to Ziquin's products. That's when the next step to better health revealed its course. With her support, I went on the Ziquin foundational and advanced program.
As I took some of the Ziquin products, Coleen's coaching helped me to check in with my body, something I hadn't done normally. During one session I realized how much I had been pushing myself - as if I were still competing for the Olympics - and needed to tell myself to slow down. I learned a lot through that coaching process.
People really require additional information for their success. For example, when I was going through a cleansing crisis or clearing process for toxins, though I understood it was part of a healing cycle, I still needed more insight about that condition because the experience could have fooled me into stopping.
"In modern America, the issues we have around the subject of eating food can be huge and very complex."
Ziquin and its educational procedure have been instrumental in my physical healing process and helping me reach a new level of vitality, mental alertness and relief from inflammation and nutritional deficiencies.
What stands out when I look back at all my experience is that I always trusted the solution would appear in my life. So I asked, stayed connected and listened. Although at times it was a frightful situation, the inspiration to get through it came from a deep spiritual connection to a higher power. This sacred trust in God has always carried me through every part of my life.
My bookNot Your Mother's Diet, which is coming out shortly, is a compilation of the insights I gained from my personal experiences, my many years of clinical experiences, plus the creative tips and tools that have been successful for my patients from over 17 years of clinical practice. Much of the information in my writing has never before been published for the benefit of the general public. I welcome you to read the book, ask questions and explore with me. If you want peace of mind, peace with your eating, peace with your body image, and peace with your relationships, pick up Not Your Mother's Diet by going to www.notyourmothersdiet.com.
I look forward to participating in Ziquin's educational process and helping others learn new ways to approach dieting and any type of challenges they might have around food.
Sleep and Long Winter Nights
By Donna Love
When I recently shared lots of helpful information on how to get a good night's sleep, I talked about the way that normal day/night sleep cycles are triggered by the circadian rhythm of sunrise and sunset, of light and dark. And that at sunset a neuropeptide in the brain called serotonin converts to the hormone melatonin in the pineal gland and causes us to sleep.
I just found mentioned in the March 9th edition of First magazine that researchers at the Georgetown University School of Medicine discovered that winter's persistent gloom hinders the pineal gland and causes levels of the neuropeptide serotonin or hormone melatonin to flatten out, resulting in daytime tiredness and nighttime insomnia.
So what to do about this?
At Ziquin we have found that all of our products have a positive effect on sleep, whether in summer or winter. Beyond that, for some people it may take a bit of time before the body gets into a balanced state and makes a smooth transition to the different lengths of light from winter to summer.
In the meantime, First magazine's article does provide a good tip, which is that because "exposure to sunshine resets the pineal gland, [and restores] cyclical production of melatonin in days...[an absence of enough sunlight should make you] consider installing a full-spectrum light bulb in your home. Studies show that 60 minutes of morning exposure to this type of illumination (which mimics sunlight) can correct melatonin levels in two weeks. A bulb that is compatible with standard light fixtures and emits a clear white light: BlueMax fluorescent ($9 and up, at FullSpectrumSlutions.com)."
